  1. My father, Richard J. Zott, recently passed away – he was a Sergeant in the 84th Chemical Mortar Bn, and his brother was also assigned to the same unit. He was proud of his service and was a great American. Thanks for keeping this unit’s istory alive for all to see and respect.

  2. Richard,
So sorry this response has taken so long. I’m just a little technically challenged to say the least. I’m so glad you found the site and enjoyed it.
I’m so sorry to hear of the loss of your Dad. I lost my Dad George Snowden back in ’89. Still miss him.
I’m surprised your Dad and his brother were in the same unit. I took the time to look up your Dad’s name in the 84th’s book and fount it. I had my Dad’s leather bound version but lost it. My wife found it on-line and downloaded it for me. Glad my Dad took pictures over there. It was the reason for the site. My Dad would have turned 100 this year. I’m still amazed that he was married and at Anzio when he was 29 years old. The Greatest Generation doesn’t even begin to cover everything they did for us. I’m so glad you reached out. I never met anyone with a connection to the 84th.
I found a hand written note of my Dad’s that said they “fired for these guys” pertaining to the 10th Mountain Division. It turns out the 10th only saw action in Alaska and Italy during WWII. I grew up in N.J. and went to H.S. with numerous 2nd generation Scandanavians whose fathers were in the 10th, They also formed up again @ Fort Drum in Watertown, N.Y. around the time of the Afganistan conflict. I promise a quicker response in the furure. Again Thanks and Merry Christmas to you and yours.
